Elkhorn Ferns grow on fallen logs and old trees - flourishing in moist, rich, bacteria laden compost.  The fertile fronds have rusty coloured tips containing seeds or spores.  Plants create their own environment by catching dead leaves on the wind and allowing their own withered fronds to remain attached to the plant.  In this way they create their own compost material from which to draw nutrients.

The focus of my recent work is compost and the value of the millions of micro bacteria living in soils.
