WATSONIA artist Felicity Gordon says it is a privilege to have a work included in an exhibition named in her mentor’s honour.
Gordon, 40, will show Numbers Game in the Playroom at the Ellen Mileo Contemporary Art Prize 2008 at the 69 Smith Street Gallery in Fitzroy this month.
Gordon said Mileo, a gallery founding member who died in 2006, had been a friend and generous member of the arts community. “She was just one of those people who had a really good eye for picking up details in work, and even though she was an elderly person, she was very contemporary in her thoughts. That’s probably why we got on so well,” Gordon said.
Gordon, who taught art to people with acquired brain injuries and dementia in Eltham for three years, said her art prize painting centred on numbers. “It features a person who works with numbers in their job, is very organised and has a unique way of looking at categorising things,” Gordon said.
The exhibition is on until December 21.
