Old fashioned Dad style underpants. Everyone has witnessed a relative dressed in them or has experienced the comfort of wearing a pair of manly cotton jocks or feminine cotton tails. “Special Pants” investigates the alarming Freudian discovery of sexuality through engendered clothing.
The special pants attach themselves to a dressmaker’s dummy covering, restricting and creating alarming body parts. It’s the combination of fabric coming to life whilst assuming a sexual character that disturbs. These are not friendly underpants.
Although realistically depicted the objects offer no definitive answer or
narrative. What I hope to offer is a visual investigation into the complex
world of human anxiety and gender.
